Bernina Model
830
The Bernina Model 830 (not to be confused with the Bernina
830 that stormed the market in 2009) hasn't been
manufactured since 1977 but it still maintains a huge list
of fans as witnessed by the number of internet forums
devoted to the sewing machine. The popularity of this machine
is due to the fact that Bernina made it near perfect. It can be
extremely difficult to find a used Bernina Model 830 in the
first place and, if you do, it won't be cheap. The manufacturer
got just about everything right with this series.
Computerized sewing machines were not yet on the market when
the Bernina Model 830 first appeared in 1972. It did come with
a long list of features however, all rolled into a sewing
marvel. From the Five Step Buttonhole to
the twenty-one different stitches and the five needle
positions the Bernina Model 830 had it all. There were a number
of "feet" that came standard with the sewing machine. Some of
the more popular ones included Zigzag, Embroidery, Overlock,
Blindstitch, Buttonhole, Small Darning, Tailor tacking, Hemmer
4mm, Pintuck (7-groove), Lap Hemmer, Zipper, and the low Shank
Adaptor.
This is a great machine for someone wanting to learn how to
sew. It brings a sense of "I can do this" because of its
features and easy to follow instructions. If you are able to
find one of these Model 830s for sale snap it up and make sure
to grab the instruction manual. If the previous owner lost it
you should be able to pick one up on eBay.
